International Lay Ministry Order moves to "The Holy City”

In keeping with Charleston’s nickname of being “The Holy City”, the International Order of St. Vincent has relocated its headquarters to this historic port city. The Order will make its home at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul at 126 Coming Street.

The Order of St. Vincent is a worldwide fellowship of lay ministers (Acolytes, Lectors, Subdeacons, Eucharistic Ministers, Sacristans, Choristers, Vergers, Ushers, and Greeters) associated with the sacred services of the Western-Rite branches of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.  The Order encourages knowledge, understanding, and preservation of traditional rituals and proper liturgics.

We’re very excited about this new chapter in the life of the Order of St. Vincent.  Our goal is to continue the Order’s growth in membership from our headquarters at the Cathedral.  While we are located at the Episcopal Cathedral of the Diocese of South Caroling, members of other western rite churches are encouraged to join us.” Said Philip Dixon, the Director General of the Order of St. Vincent, in an interview earlier this week.

The Order of St. Vincent was founded in 1882 at St. Clements Church in Philadelphia, and chartered at the Church of the Advent, Boston in 1915. St. Vincent of Saragossa, Deacon and Martyr, was martyred at Valencia, Spain in 303 AD.  Renowned as a preacher, he served his bishop faithfully as a Deacon, the lowest order of the ordained ministry.

Anyone interested in joining The International Order of St. Vincent should contact Philip Dixon, Director General at 843-722-7345.  The Order’s mailing address is P.O. Box 1245, Summerville, S.C. 29484 - 1245.
